July 2010
We went to Knightsbrook for the Captain's Day and weatherwise we had a good day bar a two minute shower. The course was very generous and the fairways were immaculate. Fast greens made the putting tricky at the best of times. Captain Martin O'Sullivan presented a deserved top prize to Jimmy Heffernan after he came home with 39 points. Best visitor on the day was our old mate, Greg Byrne who also had a fantastic score. Only deuce of the day was from Jimmy and nearest the pin was Kevin O'Sullivan.
The grub was good and the staff in the pro shop were very good to us. We'll be returning next season for sure!

May 2010
We were blessed with the weather. It looked very gloomy on the drive down but once we were out on the course it turned out to be a balmy day and the wet gear remained firmly in the bags. There was a really good turn out of 22 to the Athy course and nearly all 22 visited the pro shop...hmmm - i wonder why????. Brendan Keenan charged around the course with a blistering 39 points with Derek Coyne and Martin O'Sullivan coming in close behind on a very good 36 points each. Deuces from Jimmy, Derek and Keith kept the three boys happy and our visitors, lead in by Thomas Jackson, enjoyed themselves. The steak and the banter afterwards was good and we all went home in good humour.

April 2010
The weather was very good and the course played well for the second outing of the year - Portarlington. There was a really good turn out and thanks to everyone who came along and thanks also to our visitors - you're always welcome back to play with us. Best of the day was a great round by Harry Floyd who came in with 39 points. Second, third and fourth respectively were the O'Sullivan brothers, Kevin, Martin and John. The food was lovely and we all went home happy.See you all in Athy at the end of May.

March 2010
Another year - more golf, more deuces, more prizes, more outings, another weekend away to look forward to, some new members, some new courses, a new captain - best of luck Martin 'OSullivan - and Greg's pink shirt !!!! - sure, where else would you get it!
Great to see everyone back in action for our first outing to the Heath where we were treated to a course in good condition and some grub that hit the right spot. Best out of the blocks with 37 points was Don O'Sullivan who heads straight for the handicap chopping shed - you can probably hear him crying from wherever you are!!
Second and third on the day was Gerry Doyle and new committee member, Martin O'Byrne.
December 2009
Well men - another year over and another year wiser - we hope! The race night was a great success this year. Thanks to all the staff in The Wren's Nest pub and to all of you who came and joined in what was a very enjoyable night.
The Christmas outing was attended by 30 players - a great turnout. Well done to Tony McCormack who came in top of the list with a 38 points total. The course was bone dry and even thought there was placing everwhere, in many instances players played it as it lay. Playing off the green tees suited most people and it made the course more enjoyable. The grub was seasonal and nice and we're looking forward to returning next year. Photographic evidence of the prizegiving is here>>>
October 2009
We had a trip to the newly laid out Kilcock course and we all got out and around without needing the rain gear which is always a bonus at this time of year. We had a slightly delayed start because of early morning mist and fog but a total of 22 players eventually took to the course and 36 points was enough from Brendan Keenan to pick up first prize - Well done, Brendan. The changes to the course have certainly made it a more attractive track although, on the day, because of weather conditions the previous week, the greens were playing fairly slow. Nearest the pin and top visitor was Vincent Murphy junior. Food afterwards was very tasty and well presented. Photographic evidence here>>>
September 2009
Our weekend to Waterford went very well. The hotel (The Tower) and food was lovely and is to be recommended. The courses were all good and everybody got to tee-offs on time. Faithlegg unfortunately was a bit of a wash out for half of us but that's the Irish weather for you. Well done to the other half for sticking it out in such poor conditions. Overall and deserved winner was Jimmy Heffernan who displayed a fantastic range of shots all weekend - a credit to the club. Great efforts also from Tony McCormack ( 2nd) and our part time Croat, Mick Sheppard ( 3rd). Thanks also to our fanntastic five visitors for blending in so well and helping to make the event more enjoyable for us all.

August 2009
A turn out of 21 members and visitors enjoyed the President's Day at Elm Green in Castleknock. The weather had been miserable up to tee-off but we were spared any rain in what turned out to be a very good day. A great score of 41 points saw Gerry Doyle beat all comers to the top prize - a sat nav. Well done to Gerry and also well done to Brendan Keenan who had 40 points for second place.
The barbeque back at the Wren's Nest was a great success thanks mainly to the cookery skills of the wonderful Sean Davey and also Jimmy's Mum and Aunt.

July 2009
Twenty players came to Powerscourt for Captain Keith McAuley's big day. The weather was brilliant and the course was generous on the fairways and a bit tricky on the read of the greens but everyone seemed to enjoy the trip around a nice parkland track. The grub was good and the plates went back empty and the prizes were gratefully accepted by all. Best man on the day was Martin O'Sullivan with 34 points. No more than a handfull of points seperated the top 9 players. Photos of event here>>
June 2009
The weather was fantastic considering the forecast predicted heavy showers. The course was in good conndition but the greens seemed to be playing a bit on the slow side so a bit more ooomph was needed on the putting surface. Eamon McAuley came in top of the leaderboard with a very worthy 42 points. Given the day that was in it, it was nice to see vice captain Martin O'Sullivan amongst the prizes. Don won nearest the pin with a measurement of just over 2 metres. The meal afterwards hit the spot without getting us too excited. Photo evidence of the prize winners here>>
May 2009
Our trip to Mountrath went very well. Photographic evidence is here>>>.
Just a few spots of rain during the morning but not enough to dampen our spirits. The course was in good nick and the food was very nice. Top of the heap on the day was Society President,Derek Coyne with Gerry Doyle taking second place for the second time this season. Based on results so far we'll be making a draw for the teams for the team competition. Details at next outing.
April 2009
Portarlington was our second stop this season and it is truly a very good course and a good test of your golfing game. We had a glorious day weatherwise and we were sent off with a lovely fry-up before tee-off. Our Captain, Keith McAuley, was on hand to drive off and 15 other members followed him down the fairway. Top of the bunch on the day was Sean Davey with a marvellous round of 43 points. He'll be meeting up with the handicap slasher very shortly. Ger Brennan nearly did himself some damage when he tripped over a small wall just before the off. Thankfully his head broke his fall. Apparently, it was the first time ever we had no visitors on an outing. The course was lovely all the way around and the food afterwards was even nicer. Photo evidence of the day is here>>>>
March 2009
We kicked off the new season with a fine outing to The Heath. The weather was kind and the grub was grand. The course was dry and a bit breezy in spots but the 19 players enjoyed the day. Damien McAuley hit the ground running with a fine win on 39 points. Second was Matin O'Byrne on 34 points and Pete McCluskey came in with 33 points to claim third. Bobby Burrell claimed the duece money and new member, Kevin Eglington took the prize for nearest the pin. Photos here>>>
December 2008
At the second time of asking we eventually got going at Millicent for our Christmas outing. The course was frosted off the first day so we returned a week later and we shortened the event to a 12 hole competition because of the late start, again, due to frost.Winner on the day was John Grimes who also took the team event with his team members, Don O'Sulivan and Brendan Keenan. Don took the golfer of the year award in a very close tussle with Jimmy Heffernan. Second on the day was Kevin O'Sullivan with third going to Damien McAuley. A happy Christmas to all our members and thanks for playing your part in a most successful year of society golfing. See you at the AGM in the new year.
October 2008
Pity the turn out wasn't better but - as was commented on the day - those who stated at home were the real loosers. We had a splendid day in Abbeyleix where the staff were very welcoming. The greens had been recently pitchforked but that didn't take away from the day's enjoyment. Gerry Doyle wanted everyone to know he visited the water twice on the one hole but your webmaster thought it unfair to mention it. Winner on the day with 40 points was the very deserving, Eamonn McAuley and in second was Martin O'Byrne. Well done to Don on organising a great selection of prizes. Thanks to our visitors John Brien and Jimmy Mulholland - you are always welcome. Jimmy had the only deuce so he claimed all the money and John Brien was best visitor on the day. Photographic evidence of our visit is here>>>>
September 9th
The weekend away was to Athlone and we had a really good time on a well organised and packed weekend. Day one was to prove a dreadful day weatherwise with most of the crew only managing 12 holes before hauling in the anchor and heading for the safety of the bar. Karaoke was organised by Greg in the evening and it was brilliant. Day two in Ballinasloe was a much better day with good sunshine and some sparkling golf scores. The evening saw some of the lads hit the oldest bar in Athlone, Sean's Bar while some went on to the Palace for the video bar and the hen's night out. Eventually most of us returned to the Hotel Bar for the Trad/bluegrass session. A blistering last day at Glasson finished a great weekend of golf with Damien McAuley taking top spot overall. Prizewise, everyone went away with something and we all vowed to do it all aqain next year. (Weekend photo gallery here>>)
August 26th

August 25th
Our outing to Athy was cancelled because of the recent bad weather but the fixture was re-arranged for Sunday 24th at the Castleknock Club. The day was much kinder weatherwise and a good turn out enjoyed the splendid course conditions. Homeboy, Jimmy Heffernan, came in with a winning 40 point score followed by Ger Brennan and Kevin O'Sullivan. Full results here>>. .....Photographic evidence here>>
July 19th
We had a very successful outing to Elm Green with Damien McAuley coming out on top on the day. Well done Damien!.
Our barbeque back at The Wren's Nest was fantastic and a big thanks to all the staff at the venue for all their help and support. Major cheers for Chef Sean Davey who did a brilliant impersonation of Gordon Ramsey at the controls of the barbeque all day.
June 27th 2008
Next outing is to Elm Green in Castleknock on July 19th with a barbeque afterwards at The Wren's Nest. Let any of the committee know as soon as possible if you are travelling and also if any visitors are attending. The outing is the President's Outing.
June 14th 2008
Derek Coyne took us off the Glen of the Downs in the Garden County for his Captain's Day and weather, course and dinner was all top class. Forty points from Kevin O'Sullivan was enough to give him 1st prize on the day. Very close behind on 39 points in 2nd and 3rd were Joe Gallen and Damien McAuley, respectively. The course was in great shape and the scenic surroundings and fine weather certainly added to the enjoyment on the day. Photos here...
N.B.
The committee need to know final numbers for the weekend away on the day of the next outing at the latest.
May 17th 2008
A great day for golf with some good sunshine and and excellent course - pity the turn out wasn't a bit better. Nonetheless, we had a very pleasant day in Ardee and we would certainly like to go back. Brendan Keenan had a great score of 38 points followed by Pete McCluskey on 37 and Anto Carey on 36. Birthday boy,Keith McAuley, was nearest the pin and also came in 4th. Deuce money was won by Gerry Doyle and Noel Carter took the visitor's prize. Photos here...
April 26th 2008
A good day for a good outing to Balcarrick in Donabate for the April outing. Don O'Sullivan was an excellent winner with a one under par score of 72 - fantastic shooting. He ended up with 44 points and was followed in second place by Derek Coyne on an impressive 41 points. Third on the day was Eamon McAuley.
Photos here..
March 29th 2008
The new season kicked off down at The Heath and Captain Derek Coyne drove us off in fine style. To be honest, the weather was four seasons in one day but at least the second half saw more settled, dry conditions.
Michael Sheppard came in with a score of 39 points to take the first spot but he was closely followed on 38 points by Ger Brennan. Nearest the pin was Martin Moore and Bobby Burrell took the deuce money. Full results here...

March 2008 - AGM /Start of Season
The Annual AGM was held recently and the attendance was disappointing. The officers of the 2008 committee were elected and sworn in in the presence of our new Captain, Derek Coyne. The best of luck to Derek for the year - let's hope all your drives head straight down the middle.
After many years as treasurer of the society, Michael Sheppard decided it was time for a
break. A sincere heartfelt "thank you" to you Michael for your dedication to the cause.
This year Don O'Sullivan has the job of keeping the books straight and Gerry Doyle has taken on the role of secretary. See committee page for other elected members.
The season tees off this year with a trip to The Heath. See Outing page for all of the 2008 outings.
2007 News
Dec 8th 2007 - Millicent Outing.
Last outing of the season to Millicent. The day was extremely wet and windy and there was plenty of casual water on the course. We were extremely lucky to get out. The team event was won by Liam McNamee, Gerry Brennan, Keith McAuley and Martin O'Sullivan.
Player of the year was won by John Grimes.
October 24th - Mount Temple outing
was won by Bobby Burrell with 39 points. He
was closely followed by Don O' Sullivan one point behind. Third was John Grimes
who has been having a great season this year. Feedback on the day was good in
relation to the course, the staff and the food. General concensus was that the
members would like to revisit the course.
September 3rd - The weekend away
was a huge success!!! Our trip to
Coollattin, Helen's Bay and Enniscorthy golf courses went without hitch and
without rain. Our hotel and food were equally good. The committee are due a
large clap on the back for the organisation and hard work they put into the 3
days. Things just didn't happen by chance - everything was carefully planned.
Overall winner of the weekend was Jimmy Heffernan with Pat McAuley and Sean Davey
filling the next two spots. The scoring in general was pretty good with everyone scoring
well on at least one of the courses. Everyone had an opinion on which was their favourite
course but in all honesty they were all in good shape and it was a nice walk around all
three. Well done to the committee and also to all the members and guests for making
it a very enjoyable occasion. Role on next year's event!!!!!
August 18th - The outing to Athlone
turned out to be a good day out considering
the "course closed" sign was up on our arrival. Driving rain for most of the early
morning threatened to cancel the days proceedings but thankfully a break in
the weather allowed us to get out an hour later than planned.
The course was certainly in good shape and proved to be an enjoyable ramble.
Given the slightly damp and blustery conditions it wasn't a surprise that we didn't have too many high scores. Best on the day was Martin O'Sullivan closely followed home by Peter McCluskey and Jimmy Heffernan. Keith McAuley won the deuce competition.
July 28th - Captain's Day at Castleknock
was a great success with 44 players
hitting the course on a fine sunny day. The day went like clockwork, the course was challenging, the food and staff were both top class.
Congrats to the committee and, in particular our captain, Jimmy Heffernan for all
their hard work in making it a hugely enjoyable event. On the day it was the man with the bad back who came out on top - Eamonn McAuley with a score of 34 points. Well done to Eamonn and also to John Grimes and Martin O'Byrne who finished second and third respectively.
June 28th - Wicklow Outing
Good turn out for the Wicklow Outing with top honours on the day going to Martin Ralph. Ger Brennan and Jimmy Heffernan were a close second and third.
Next up is the Captain's outing to Castleknock on July 28th. Check out the team competition page.
May 19th - Abbeyleix Outing
The second outing to Abbeyleix went like clockwork with 24 players turning out on a day with a bit of a mixed bag when it came to the weather. The rain didn't interfere too much with the play and the course had a number of testing holes. Concentration was the order of the day. Winner was Keith McAuley with John O'Sullivan and Ger Brennan a close 2nd and 3rd respectively.
April 20th - Our first outing of the season to Athy was a great success with 31 golfers turning up on a warm sunny day. The course was in very good shape and, despite the odd hold up on a couple of the teeboxes, everyone got around comfortably enough. There was a unanimous thumbs up for the food afterwards - it was excellent. Deserved winner on the day was Greg Byrne with 40 points - he wasn't evening wearing his lucky pink shirt!!!
April 5th - Our first outing is to Athy on Saturday,14th April.
Bring your money boxes with you...Mick Shep will be collecting green fees and annual subs. He will also be collecting deposits if you wish to pay something off your weekend away.
